After a lovely, sunny day at the beach, I have spent the evening marking 20 or so recipes for my 1 ESO class. After completing my observed lesson, I took in the students’ writing, which was recipes for their favourite dishes. It’s very insightful to be able to evaluate the students’ progress through marking; I can see what L1 interferences there are and common mistakes in the class - this greatly helps to direct and inspire my next lesson plan! With this activity in particular, I feel it has helped me to personally connect more with the students and understand who they are as people - rather than just language learners. For instance, a lot of 11 year olds love Oreo milkshakes and pizza - probably not all that surprising!
However, it does get somewhat repetitive reading/error correcting the same mistakes 20 odd times! Nevertheless, seeing the pile slowly go down, as I watch a 90s American film poorly dubbed in Spanish, is rather rewarding indeed!
All the best to everyone :)
