I was placed in a private school in Moncada, a suburban area situated in the north of Valencia. The streets are lined with some beautiful orange trees and weather is treating us kindly (a far cry from that inclement British weather)! It's a bit of a sleepy hollow, but in a good way. I enjoy the tranquility of the place and Valencia is just a bus/metro ride away.
I remember feeling slightly anxious on Monday while walking to our school (10 mins walk from the flat). We were met by a young and amicable headteacher. She showed us around and made us feel welcome. It's a small school, where everyone is helpful and supportive. Spanish kids could be quite noisy at times, but they are lovely. I even got some hugs from a primary school girl 😀 There were lots of observations and we were eased into teaching towards the end of the week.
It's a big mix of levels and ages (6 - 19y.o.), so I'm thankful for such a great opportunity. From singing 'Head and shoulders, knees and toes' with some 6 and 7 year olds, to discussing what impact can video games and avatars have on our real lives with the university girls... it feels like one big 'paella Valenciana' So, if you have appetite for teaching, it's a place to be!
And as I near the end of this blog entry (that was written on a modest roof terrace in early February! My beloved London...you may have some competition!) with a cup of tea in my hands and the sun caressing my face, all I can add is:
ALL'S WELL IN MONCADA 😎
