The title is a bit misleading because I actually don't have anything like the requisite free time to write and record my second album. What it really refers to is my second week in A Coruna, and my second week as an English teacher to Spanish young people. The novelty factor which accompanied my arrival has begun to wear off a little, and this week I began finding my feet with my own style of lesson. Think The Heart of Saturday Night as opposed to Closing Time (to extend the album metaphor to Tom Waits' discography). Yes, I did just compare teaching English to Spanish young'uns to being one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. The power of the metaphor!
We're sat in our favourite coffee shop in between teaching blocks and I'm still loving Spanish life. We had a very interesting tour of the cathedral in Santiago on Sunday. I taught my first group of third year students (aged fourteen/fifteen) yesterday, and we had a really good debate about the pros and cons of social media. They had some really complex ideas to share. I have my observation later today and I've decided to do a lesson on the present perfect with twenty five nine/ten year olds - wish me luck!
Hasta luego!
