Hello All
After being in A Coruña for about a week now I think I can almost say that I am beginning to enjoy myself. The apprehension that I felt prior to teaching my first few lessons has passed somewhat and is beginning to be replaced by a tinge of excitement as to how things will go, if the students will be responsive to what I was sure they would be or if chaos will ensue! Fortunately the students have seemed to be receptive and my tutor has been happy and has told me that they’re learning...I hope this continues.
The staff room is an interesting place. Full of contrasts. On one hand there is a stunning view of the sea that you could watch for hours and on the other a pretty grotesque painting of four sad clowns that pretty much scared the s**t out of me when I first noticed it! (I will try and figure out how to put a picture of it on here one of these days)
On most days at some point I find myself there alone, such as free periods or lunchtimes as it appears that the teachers often eat out. The silence is deafening with just me and the clowns. At other times it is louder than a classroom (before the lesson starts of course). The teachers have been so nice. Always very warm, today offering me cakes that someone brought in, lighthearted conversation or helping me with my Spanish. I’m very grateful for how welcoming they’ve been.
